Apna Haq

Delhi – This 27th of January 2014 we held the premiere and exhibition of our 10th project,In VOW Media and FAT’s first project together Apna Haq, VOW Media trained a group of young girls from the slums of South Delhi to utilize photography, radio and video that they created in a three month long workshop, in order to raise awareness and disseminate information about the situation they face everyday. The photography they created was included in the exhibition during the film screening and in the photo-book. In their radio show, “Meri Kahani Meri Zubaani” the girls boldly and openly share stories of the violence they face at home.

And finally, the Apna Haq video, a collection of short films on the issue of toilets, coming directly from their voices, was premiered in Lok Kala Manch in New Delhi. This short video creatively shows how not having a toilet can have a major effect on people’s lives, specifically young women’s.
The video will be screened in three slums where the girls come from this month. It will be shown to members of their communities and utilized to begin the process of understanding the RTI act. On March 9th, Apna Haq will be screened at the Indian Habitat Center in New Delhi as a part of the women’s day celebrations.
